Walney Wind Cheetahs Running Group plays a major role in organising the Walney Fun Run each year. This usually takes place on the last Sunday in June and is believed to be unique in that the day starts with a Disability Mile for youngsters with disabilities, their families and carers. This event gives these children a chance to take the spotlight in a fun. non-competitive run with an audience of hundreds cheering them on.
The Fun Run itself is open to all runners, children and adults, with a choice of 5k or 10k distances. The run covers one or two laps of a course on the beautiful Walney Island, following the beach path with views out to sea and over the Cumbrian Fells.
The Fun Run has grown in popularity each year with local families taking part alongside runners from South Cumbria’s Running and Athletics Clubs, and visitors from further afield.
The whole day has a great family atmosphere with the Walney Wind Cheetahs acting as marshals, running with the WWC Cubs, cheering each other on, and sharing a huge WWC picnic at the end!
We are grateful for the support and sponsorship of NWEM, K2B and Siemens, in putting on this event.
